Melissa Matthes
A former assistant professor at the University of Maryland, Melissa Matthes is the author of The Rape of Lucretia and the Founding of Republics, which explores the relationship between political foundings and sexual violence. Her recent work has focused on the role sermons play (and have played) in developing conceptions of citizenship and patriotism, particularly since 9/11. She holds a Ph.D in the History of Consciousness Program at UC Santa Cruz, and is currently pursuing an M.Div at Yale Divinity School.
